The education district 11-01 of Sosúa commemorated the 209th birthday of the hero Matías Ramón Mella yesterday, February 25, with a parade through the streets of Sosúa.
Matías Ramón Mella, one of the three Founding Fathers of the Dominican Republic, was born on February 25, 1816.
As a politician, soldier and independence activist, his leadership was crucial in the fight for independence. On the night of February 27, 1844, Mella ignited the spark of revolution by firing his blunderbuss at the Puerta de la Misericordia, an act that marked the beginning of the struggle for independence.

His strategic talent and dedication to the national cause were fundamental to ending the Haitian occupation and consolidating the country's sovereignty.
And because of this event on February 27, 1844, tomorrow on February 27, 2025, the Independence Day of the Dominican Republic will be celebrated throughout the country.
So tomorrow there will be another parade through the streets of Sosúa to celebrate this.
Afterwards there will be all kinds of performances by local schoolchildren.
