ADSS (La Asociación para el Desarrollo Sostenible de Sosúa, The Association for Sustainable Development of Sosúa), has called for a public meeting with the participation of representatives from different sectors.
The aim was to combine efforts to tackle the problems facing Sosúa.
David Ferreiras, Chairman of ADSS, called on those present to join the group and fight together to ensure that the community's voice is heard and to restore the splendor of this tourist destination that marked the beginning of tourism in the country.
Andrés Pastoriza, former president of ADSS, emphasized that since its creation in 2010, the organization has fought to reposition Sosúa as a tourist destination for families and to solve its main problems.
ADSS wants to solve Sosúa's problems
He said that while important results have been achieved, it is still necessary to join efforts from all sectors to demand the necessary changes from the authorities.
Juan Perdomo, director of ADSS, recalled that Sosúa experienced great dynamics in the 80s and 90s.
He emphasized that few new hotels have been built in Sosúa in the past 30 years, due to the city's shameful image.
This despite the city's beautiful surroundings and natural resources.
During the meeting, which took place in the Parque de las Banderas, the main problems facing the municipality and its development were discussed, including the deterioration of the streets and the main road, traffic congestion, deficiencies in drinking water supply, environmental pollution and the discharge of waste into the sea and nearby rivers.
Also, the serious problem of prostitution in the central areas of Batey makes it impossible for family tourism to enjoy the atmosphere of the area.
The participants of the meeting appealed to government authorities, to the mayor's office led by Wilfredo Olivences (El Chamo) and to all sectors to join forces to save Sosúa.
