Minister José Ignacio Paliza, last Thursday, toured several areas of the municipality of Sosúa, in the province of Puerto Plata, with the aim of accurately assessing the situation created by the flooding following the heavy rains of recent weeks.
Paliza met with community members and listened to their concerns and needs.
During the meeting, the minister pledged to coordinate efforts with government agencies to speed up the response to the damage caused and work on solutions to future climate changes.
The government is determined to provide a helping hand to the affected families; many of them have lost their belongings and through the special programs we will provide them with essential items, Paliza stressed.
During the tour he announced the immediate delivery of food, zinc, wood and other materials to help rebuild homes.
Places such as Sosúa, Yásica and Villa Montellano have been the hardest hit, with several families displaced and significant material losses.

In his speech, Paliza emphasized the importance of solidarity and swift action by the government to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected.
The Minister emphasized the need to address the root causes of vulnerability in these areas.
He announced that he would work on comprehensive plans to reduce flood risks, including improving infrastructure and planning preventive measures.
