The beach vendors of Sosúa were again confronted by the authorities.
On Wednesday morning, police officers threw a tear gas bomb at several people who were standing at the construction of the beach squares of Sosúa.
The clashes occurred when the managers of the vendors' association and protesters on the beach of Sosúa, tried to enter the construction sites of the plazas, for a protest.
New protest from the beach vendors
Mr. José Manuel (Lilo), spokesman for the beach vendors, said they will not stop protesting until a solution to the problem is found.
There has been a tense atmosphere on the beach of Sosúa recently because the construction managers and agents of the National Police have cordoned off the entire place.
Later, Mr. André Batista, president of the beach vendors, went to Puerto Plata where a group of beach vendors from Sosúa occupied the cathedral.
They feel misled by the Ministry of Tourism. Batista and the Bishop of Puerto Plata, Monsignor Julio César Corniel Amaro, tried to resolve the issues.
The sellers indicated that they had agreed on the construction of three plazas, but that it has not yet started and are therefore demanding the intervention of the government.
They want to mislead us, they want to privatize Sosúa beach, said one of the sellers.
In addition, they stated that about 5,000 people depend on the beach for their livelihood.
