On Thursday, November 4, an exhibition about the life of the famous writer Michael Ende opened in the exhibition hall of Casa de Arte in Sosúa.
The versatile German writer is best known for his children's books.
His children's books with the titles 'Momo' and 'The Endless Story' are world famous and they have also been successfully filmed.
He also wrote novels, novellas, short stories and scripts for films.
The German embassy in Santo Domingo decided to hold a retrospective of this important German children's author.
The director Adolfo Faringthon of Casa de Arte of Sosúa has good contacts with the German embassy.
When he heard about this exhibition, he asked the deputy head of the German embassy, Katrin Werdermann, if this exhibition could also come to Casa de Arte.
This is because in Sosúa a reading incentive campaign is now being held among schoolchildren.
Michael Ende's books have also been translated into Spanish.
So last Thursday evening the exhibition was opened with speeches by Ramon Gil (chairman of the Sosúa writers' collective) and Adolfo Faringthon.
Michael Ende
Deputy Ambassador Katrin Werdermann was also present.
She hopes that with this exhibition and the availability of the books of Michael Ende, the eagerness to read among the youth of Sosúa will be stimulated.
