The magician of Sosúa is still a public figure.
His name is Manuel Rosario Emillio.
However, everyone knows him as 'El Mago'.
He always carries a briefcase with him where he keeps his magic attributes.
If enough are curious, he will do his magic show.
His performance consists of entering very large nails into his nose and then spit them out a moment later.
Swallowing a rope and let it come out again through his nose.
Batissa el Mago
He does all sorts of things especially with his nose.
He smokes and drinks with it too.
He also puts an awl in his cheek which, he says, does not cause any bleeding.
Of course you have to be a fan of this kind magic to appreciate his skills.
But it is particularly what this man can do.
Wednesday afternoon, he gave a performance at Ingrid's Bar on the beach of Sosúa.
There was a big audience and the arts and antics of El Mago were greatly appreciated.
At this moment.
But according to Batissa el Mago, the tourist of today is not so much interested anymore in his yet so extraordinary abilities.
No, he is no longer doing as well as he did before, businesswise.
He hopes that with the arrival of Russian tourists there will be some more appreciation for his tricks, for now he must spend his days in poverty.
The golden age of Batissa el Mago is apparently over, it is now waiting for a new golden 'Russian' age.
