Sunday morning, 27 February in all hamlets, villages and cities in the Dominican Republic Independence Day was celebrated.
It was exactly the 167th time this Sunday that the liberation of the Haitian occupiers was celebrated.
Celebration of Independence Day
On 27 February 1844 Juan Pablo Duarte, Ramón Matias Mella and Francisco del Rosario Sánchez proclaimed the independent 'República Dominicana'.
Around 9.00 clock in the morning, the students of various schools of Sosúa gathered at the helipad.
But there were are also many representatives of all sorts of sports clubs present.
For weeks the students have rehearsed to walk in the parade, the choreography of the dances and to play the drums.
From the helipad, they went to the park of the flags (opposite the Banco Popular) where speeches were held and the mayor Ilana Neumann laid a memorial wreath at the portraits of the fathers of the country.
